In 1879 Lalanne became a member of the Académie des sciences. In 1881 he retired, and was made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour. He became involved in politics again in the moderate left-wing. In 1883 he became a senator for life. In 1882, he was Chairman of the Compagnie des omnibus de Paris. Read more at
