Melones Mining Co. - 1899 dated California and West Virginia Mining Stock Certificate - PMG Graded 55 About Uncirculated EPQ

Stock printed by New York Bank Note Co. Rare! PMG graded 55. The Melones Mining Co., Melones, Calaveras County, Cal., started up their slime plant for the re-treatment of tailings using Dorr counter- current decantation. This undertaking is noteworthy from the low grade of the product treated, the slimes running only 80 cts. per ton. The Melones Mining Co., at Melones, shut down its mine in October, 1918, owing to war conditions, but some ore was milled in cleaning out the old slopes until the milling plant was closed in February, 1919. This plant consists of a 100-stamp amalgamation and concentration mill and a tailings cyanidation plant. There is a separate concentrate cyanidation plant. While the mine was closed during 1919 the hydroelectric plant was rebuilt and the output was sold for commercial use. Some copper ore was shipped by Barron & Lowery, of Milton. The Napoleon mine, near the same place, has a 50-ton flotation mill and shipped a considerable quantity of concentrates to the smelter at Tacoma, Wash. The property was operated intermittently during a few months of the year, and part of the time tests were made with the flotation process.
