Madison Square Garden, commonly referred to as The Garden or by its acronym MSG, is a versatile indoor arena located in New York City. It is positioned in Midtown Manhattan, nestled between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, extending from 31st to 33rd Street, and is built above Pennsylvania Station. This venue is the fourth to carry the name "Madison Square Garden"; the first two, established in 1879 and 1890, were situated on Madison Square at East 26th Street and Madison Avenue, while the third iteration, opened in 1925, was located further uptown at Eighth Avenue and 50th Street. The Garden hosts a variety of events, including professional ice hockey, basketball, boxing, concerts, ice shows, circuses, professional wrestling, and other sports and entertainment activities. It is in proximity to notable midtown Manhattan landmarks such as the Empire State Building, Koreatown, and Macy's at Herald Square. The venue serves as the home for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the New York Knicks of the National Basketball Association (NBA), and it was the home of the New York Liberty (WNBA) from 1997 until 2017.
Initially named Madison Square Garden Center, the arena opened its doors on February 11, 1968, making it the oldest major sports facility in the New York metropolitan area. It holds the distinction of being the oldest arena in both the NBA and the NHL. In 2016, MSG ranked as the second-busiest music venue globally in terms of ticket sales, following The O2 Arena in London. With two significant renovations, the total construction cost has reached approximately $1.1 billion, positioning it among the ten most expensive stadium venues ever constructed. The Garden is part of the Pennsylvania Plaza office and retail complex, named after the adjacent railway station, and several other entities associated with the venue share its name.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
