The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company (LCAN), active from 1988 to 2010, was a modern anthracite coal mining company based in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. It acquired many properties from the original Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company (LC&N) and revived the historic brand name. LCAN operated strip mining operations primarily in the Panther Creek Valley, east of Lansford along U.S. Route 209, with significant holdings in the coal regions around Tamaqua, Coaldale, and Lansford. These properties had historical ties to earlier ventures: the Lehigh Coal Mine Company (1792–1822) and the pioneering Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company (Old Company, LC&N), which played a crucial role in America's Industrial Revolution.

Josiah White (1781–1850) was a prominent Pennsylvania industrialist and a key figure in the American Industrial Revolution. Along with Erskine Hazard (1790–1865), who became his partner around 1810, White was instrumental in advancing steam power and railroading. Their efforts were critical in transitioning the Northeast U.S. from an agrarian society to an industrial powerhouse, laying the groundwork for America's emergence as a leading global economic power.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
