The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, founded in 1833 and commonly known as the Lake Shore, played a significant role in the New York Central Railroad's Water Level Route, which connects Buffalo, New York, to Chicago, Illinois. This route primarily follows the southern shore of Lake Erie, traversing areas in New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, as well as northern Indiana. The railway's tracks continue to serve as a vital transportation corridor for Amtrak passenger services and various freight operations. In 1998, ownership of the line was divided at Cleveland, Ohio, with CSX Transportation acquiring the eastern segment and Norfolk Southern Railway taking control of the western segment.
A bond is a document of title for a loan. Bonds are issued, not only by businesses, but also by national, state or city governments, or other public bodies, or sometimes by individuals. Bonds are a loan to the company or other body. They are normally repayable within a stated period of time. Bonds earn interest at a fixed rate, which must usually be paid by the undertaking regardless of its financial results. A bondholder is a creditor of the undertaking.
