John Nicholson - North American Land Co.

John Nicholson (died 1800), Comptroller general of Pennsylvania. Later he became the partner of Robert Morris. The firm of Morris & Nicholson acquired 7 thousand lots in the new Federal city (Washington) and built one-third of the structures which were standing there when it became the nation's capital. Sadly, both Nicholson and Morris ended up in debtor's prison. Both rendered invaluable financial assistance during the Revolution. This North American Land Company printed document is an application to John Nicholson for a grant of 400 acres of land, 1794.
