Inv# AM1325Invitation For Lincoln Tomb Ceremony. Extremely Rare. Fantastic Condition. 7.5" wide x 10" tall. The Lincoln Tomb, situated in Oak Ridge Cemetery, has experienced two major renovations. The first occurred between 1899 and 1901, addressing foundation problems, while the second took place from 1930 to 1931, focusing on interior enhancements and increasing the obelisk's height.
First Renovation (1899-1901):
The original structure faced significant foundation issues due to uneven ground settling. To rectify this, the tomb was dismantled, new foundations were laid, and it was subsequently rebuilt. Additionally, the obelisk's height was elevated by 15 feet, and President Lincoln's remains were relocated to a new vault beneath the floor of the burial chamber.
Second Renovation (1930-1931):
The second phase primarily aimed at improving the tomb's interior, which involved the addition of decorative hallways leading to the burial chamber, showcasing its marble memorial stone. The interior was redesigned in the Art Deco style, and the newly renovated space was rededicated by President Herbert Hoover.
