William Backhouse Astor (1792-1875), Businessman who joined his father’s firm John Jacob Astor & Son, as head of Am. Fur Co. division. In 1815 he inherited the bulk of his father’s estate. Astor continued his father’s policy of buying New York City real estate and became known as the “Landlord of New York.” One of the richest men of his time, left an estate of approximately $47,000,000. His son Wm. B. Astor Jr. signs for him as his attorney with his usual “Wm. Astor” signature. William shared equally in the estate with his brother John Jacob Astor, III. Portraits of both William B. Astor Jr. and his father are included. Augustus Schell (1812-1884), Lawyer and Businessman, friend and adviser to Cornelius Vanderbilt, Jay Gould, and others. Schell signs for a client. 11"x17" Others that sign are worthy of research. Dividend sheet dated Oct. 15, 1868 in Excellent Condition. Very Rare!
