Frederic John Fisher (1878-1941), Manufacturer. Organized Fisher Body Co. in 1908.
Inventor, Designer. As one of the most respected leaders of the fledgling automotive industry, he had his designs chartered the Fisher Auto Body Corporation in New York City in 1916. While other bodies were modified horse-drawn carriages, Fisher bodies were sturdier carriages made especially for cars. In 1923, the Fisher Body Company had made $23 million on a volume of 417,000 automotive bodies. He was President and General Manager of the family enterprise when he merged three smaller companies the Fisher Body Company, Fisher Body Company of Canada and the Fisher Closed Body Company into the industry's largest auto body producing firm. From 1924 to 1934, Fisher, who made the "Body by Fisher" trademark famous, served as Vice President of General Motors, Detroit Michigan, which acquired complete control of Fisher Body in 1926.
