Henry Ford, born on July 30, 1863, in Dearborn, Michigan, was an American industrialist and the visionary founder of the Ford Motor Company. From a young age, he exhibited a strong aversion to farm work and a profound fascination with mechanics. He often dismantled and reassembled watches for friends and neighbors.
After working as an apprentice machinist in Detroit and later as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company, Ford embarked on experiments with internal combustion engines. In 1896, he successfully completed his first self-propelled vehicle, the Quadricycle. Despite facing several early business failures, he established the Ford Motor Company in 1903 with a clear vision: to build an affordable car for the masses.
Ford’s ultimate breakthrough came in 1908 with the introduction of the Model T, a vehicle that revolutionized American transportation. To meet the unprecedented demand for the Model T, Ford introduced the moving assembly line in 1913. This innovation drastically reduced production time and lowered costs, making automobiles more accessible to the general public.
In 1914, Ford further transformed the industrial landscape by introducing the five-dollar-a-day wage for an eight-hour workday. This move doubled the average worker’s pay and helped secure a stable and loyal workforce. While Ford’s later life was marked by controversial social views and labor disputes, his innovative manufacturing techniques democratized automobile ownership and fundamentally shaped the modern industrial world. He passed away on April 7, 1947.
A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
