Collection of 8 Railroad Stocks and 3 Railroad Prints. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (reporting mark BO) holds the distinction of being the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States, with its initial section commencing operations in 1830. Merchants from Baltimore, having gained some advantage from the earlier construction of the National Road, sought to establish trade connections with settlers moving westward across the Appalachian Mountains.

The Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railway (reporting mark BR&P) was one of the many railroad companies established in North America. Unlike many of its counterparts, it had a notably extended operational lifespan, connecting communities from the shores of Lake Ontario to the heart of western Pennsylvania.

The Junction Railroad was chartered on March 2, 1846, to construct a route from Cleveland to Toledo. The Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland Railroad, chartered on March 7, 1850, was tasked with building from Toledo east to Grafton on the Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati Railroad. The latter line began operations on January 24, 1853, creating a continuous route from Buffalo to Chicago. On September 1 of the same year, the two railroads merged to form the Cleveland and Toledo Railroad, with the Junction Railroad becoming the Northern Division and the Toledo, Norwalk and Cleveland Railroad the Southern Division.

The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (CRI&P RW), commonly referred to as the Rock Island Line or simply The Rock in its later years, was a major American Class I railroad. It was also known by the reporting marks CRIP, RI, and ROCK.

The Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, commonly known as the DL&W or Lackawanna Railroad, was a U.S. Class I railroad that linked Buffalo, New York, with Hoboken, New Jersey, and by ferry with New York City, covering a distance of 395 miles (636 km). Incorporated in Pennsylvania in 1853, its primary goal was to connect the anthracite coal fields of Pennsylvania's Coal Region with the major coal markets in New York City. Over time, the railroad expanded east and west, eventually establishing a direct link between Buffalo and New York City.

The Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad (reporting mark GMO) was a Class I railroad in the central United States, operating key routes from Mobile, Alabama, and New Orleans, Louisiana, to St. Louis and Kansas City, Missouri, and extending to Chicago, Illinois. Its network included two parallel lines running through eastern Mississippi and provided service to cities such as Montgomery and Birmingham, Alabama, as well as Memphis, Tennessee.

The Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railway (reporting mark PWV) served the region between Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Wheeling, West Virginia. Initially established as the Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal Railway, it was intended as a Pittsburgh extension of George J. Gould's Wabash Railroad. The railroad entered receivership in 1908 and was subsequently abandoned.

The Reading Company, headquartered in Philadelphia, was a railroad that offered passenger and freight services in eastern Pennsylvania and neighboring states. It operated from 1924 until its acquisition by Conrail in 1976.

A stock certificate is issued by businesses, usually companies. A stock is part of the permanent finance of a business. Normally, they are never repaid, and the investor can recover his/her money only by selling to another investor. Most stocks, or also called shares, earn dividends, at the business's discretion, depending on how well it has traded. A stockholder or shareholder is a part-owner of the business that issued the stock certificates.
