Brinco - British Newfoundland Corporation Ltd - Specimen Stock Certificate
Inv# SE1455 Specimen Stock
Specimen Stock. Printed by Canadian Bank Note Company. The British Newfoundland Corporation Limited, later known as Brinco Limited after 1971, was established in 1953 by a consortium of British firms that aimed to pursue industrial development opportunities in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. This company played a significant role in the construction of the Churchill Falls Generating Station.
The idea for BRINCO originated in 1952, when Joey Smallwood, the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, envisioned fostering industrial growth in the province. To achieve this, Smallwood traveled to the United Kingdom to engage private sector companies, proposing the availability of extensive undeveloped resource lands in both Labrador and Newfoundland in return for commitments to develop any natural resources that might be found.
Following a series of discussions with prominent political and industrial figures, including Sir Winston Churchill and Anthony Gustav de Rothschild, Smallwood successfully facilitated the formation of a consortium comprising seven major British corporations. This consortium was tasked with exploring, assessing, and, where possible, developing the province's natural resources.
Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
