Inv# SE3509   Specimen Stock
State(s): Massachusetts
Years: 1997
Color: Green and Black

Specimen Stock printed by American Bank Note Company. BankBoston was a financial institution located in Boston, Massachusetts, established in 1996 through the merger of Bank of Boston and BayBank. One of its predecessor institutions dates back to 1784; however, the merged entity of BankBoston was relatively short-lived, as it was acquired by FleetBoston Financial in 1999. Subsequently, in 2005, FleetBoston was itself acquired and merged into Bank of America, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Following the divestiture of its Latin American branches in 2006, BankBoston now operates exclusively as a private banking subsidiary under the ownership of Bank of America. The history of BankBoston reflects the amalgamation of numerous banks across the New England area, which were acquired over a span of more than two hundred years. Among its significant predecessor institutions were the Massachusetts Bank, the First National Bank of Boston, the Old Colony Trust Company, and BayBank.

Stock and Bond Specimens are made and usually retained by a printer as a record of the contract with a client, generally with manuscript contract notes such as the quantity printed. Specimens are sometimes produced for use by the printing company's sales team as examples of the firm’s products. These are usually marked "Specimen" and have no serial numbers.
