On 20 October 2020, The Bahamas became the first nation to implement a legal digital currency, launching the Sand Dollar as an alternative to the conventional Bahamian dollar. According to the Central Bank of The Bahamas, the primary tools of its monetary policy include reserve requirements, adjustments to the Bank discount rate, and selective credit controls, along with moral suasion. The Central Bank aims to maintain stable conditions, including credit stability, to uphold the parity between the US dollar and the Bahamian dollar while facilitating economic growth.
