In 1942, the Securities and Exchange Commission mandated the dissolution of the company, a process that was finalized by 1951. Many of these subsidiaries continue to exist today, either under their original names or as components of other corporations:

  1. Citizens Power & Light Co., located in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
  2. Central Arizona Light & Power Co., based in Phoenix, Arizona, merged with Arizona Edison in 1952 to create Arizona Public Service.
  3. Florida Power & Light Co., situated in Miami, Florida, is currently a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources.
  4. Fort Worth Power & Light Co., in Fort Worth, Texas, integrated into TU Electric in 1984.
  5. Helena Gas & Electric Co., found in Helena, Montana.
  6. Kansas Gas & Electric Co., located in Wichita, Kansas, merged with Kansas Power and Light of Topeka in 1992 to establish Westar Energy.
  7. Minnesota Power & Light Co., based in Duluth, Minnesota.
  8. Missoula Public Service Co., in Missoula, Montana, was acquired by Montana Power Company in 1929.
  9. Montana Power Company, headquartered in Butte, Montana, remains operational today.
  10. Nebraska Power Co., located in Omaha, Nebraska.
  11. Northern Power Co., situated in Superior, Wisconsin.
  12. Northwestern Electric Co., based in Portland, Oregon.
  13. Pacific Power & Light Co., also in Portland, Oregon, is now referred to as PacifiCorp and is owned by Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
  14. Portland Gas & Coke Co., located in Portland, Oregon.
  15. St. Augustine Co., found in St. Augustine, Florida.
  16. Superior Water, Light & Power Co., based in Superior, Wisconsin.
  17. Texas Electric Service Co., in Dallas, Texas, became part of TU Electric in 1984.
  18. Texas Power & Light Co., also in Dallas, Texas, merged into TU Electric in 1984.
  19. Texas Public Utilities Corp., located in Dallas, Texas, was incorporated into TU Electric.
  20. Washington Water Power Co., situated in Spokane, Washington, is now known as Avista.
