Edwin Clark Litchfield (1815-1885) was a prominent Brooklyn lawyer and businessman. Along with his brother, Electus, he developed Brooklyn's railways and the Gowanus Canal and acquired a significant tract of land from the Cortelyou estate, which the Litchfield Brothers developed into Park Slope. Litchfield also played a prominent role in the creation of Prospect Park. In 1892, after his death, the family estate was converted into the Parks Department Building within the park and has since been renamed Litchfield Villa.
