Company Name: Samuel Rubin, a New York philanthropist, was the founder of Faberge. Doodling on a piece of cardboard from his freshly laundered shirts, he drew up the design of a cylindrical bottle with a simple cylindrical top. He patented it. It immediately became popular and proved to be the model for not only other perfumes, but also aerosol cans as well. He built the Faberge company as a small firm that sold a line of cosmetic products to one select store in each big city. The exclusivity of his marketing plan tantalized other stores and made his business grow. The perfumes became very popular. He sold the company in 1963 for about $25 million, giving most of the money to his Samuel Rubin Foundation. Rayette, Inc. and George Barrie, a two-time Academy Award nominee and the creator of the Brut line of men’s cologne were the buyers. In June, 1965 the company became Rayette-Faberge, Inc. The name was simplified to Faberge, Inc. in June, 1969. Another change in March, 1984 made the company a subsidiary of the McGregor Corp.
Faberge acquired and introduced a number of well known toiletries, fragrances and hair care products. These were distributed in the US and through its branches in Europe, Latin America and Australia. Products were also introduced in the Far East and the Middle East. Some brands were sold only in certain countries.
