Not much is said of the actual company, but a superpower is a state with a dominant position characterized by its extensive ability to exert influence or project power on a global scale. This is done through the combined means of economic, military, technological, political and cultural strength as well as diplomatic and soft power influence. Traditionally, superpowers are preeminent among the great powers.

The term was first applied in 1944 during World War II to the United States, Britain, and the Soviet Union. During the Cold War, the British Empire dissolved, leaving the United States and the Soviet Union to dominate world affairs. At the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States became the world's sole superpower.

China is considered an emerging global superpower in economy, military, technology, diplomacy and soft power influence. The Lowy Institute Asia Power Index, which measures power projection in the Indo-Pacific, called both China and the US superpowers, citing their immense influence in almost all eight indices of power. Whilst China takes the lead on the parameters of economic resources, future resources, economic relationships and diplomatic influence across eight measures, it ranks second in military capacity and cultural influence, behind the United States. In recent times, China has been referred to as a rising "second superpower", with global power and influence just below the United States.
